Already in 1972, at just 16 years old, Mário drew the first sketches of what would become the Hofstetter. The following year, he began building the body using fiberglass, a light and innovative material for the time.

Mario's father, Felix Hofstetter, initially doubted his son's ability. However, when he saw the finished body in 1975, he was impressed and decided to support the project. To test the design, Mário adapted the body to a racing chassis and carried out tests on the streets of São Paulo, an experience that also provided valuable lessons about mechanics.

  • Scissor doors, electronically actuated;
  • Retractable headlights;
  • Digital panel;
  • A system of integrated air conditioning due to the absence of opening windows.

Despite these innovations, the lack of functional windows brought challenges. To get around them, Mário implemented a small sliding opening in the acrylic windows.

PRODUCTION AND CHALLENGES

In 1986, the small factory in Olympia Village, in Sao Paulo, began producing Hofstetter. However, the unstable economic context in Brazil at the time directly impacted expansion plans. Despite all the difficulties, production continued at a reduced pace.

The mechanics have also evolved. The engine has been updated to a 2.0 liter turbo, derived from VW Santana, which improved torque and acceleration. Despite these improvements, the Hofstetter was never mass-produced.

Between 1986 and 1993, only 18 units were manufactured, making it an extremely rare item and coveted by collectors.
